Dresden Elementary Student Wins 2015 Dental Health Quiz Bowl

Dresden Elementary Student Wins 2015 Dental Health Quiz Bowl

Kimberly Castro recently won the DeKalb County Board of Health’s 2015 Dental Health Quiz Bowl.  She is a fifth grader at Dresden Elementary School in Chamblee.

DeKalb County Interim Chief Executive Officer Lee May served as guest speaker at the awards ceremony.  He stressed the importance of parents teaching children about good dental hygiene.  He also encouraged the students to consider careers in dentistry and other areas of health care.

The Board of Health’s Dental Health Services sponsors the annual quiz bowl, now in its 10th year.  The 2015 competition began in January.  All fifth graders in the DeKalb County School District, Atlanta Public Schools (in DeKalb County) and City Schools of Decatur were invited to participate.  The bowl requires learning and recalling dozens of oral health terms and facts.

The other finalists were first runner-up Martha Portillo from Hightower Elementary, Zanab Al-Muswey from Indian Creek Elementary and Meylin Vaca from Dresden Elementary.
