DeKalb County Board of Health Joins Health Care Leaders in Launching ‘Nobody Quits Like Georgia’

Campaign & Week-Long Events Will Connect Georgians with Critical Support to Quit Smoking

DECATUR, Ga.  –  DeKalb District Health Director S. Elizabeth Ford, M.D., M.B.A. is proud to join more than 30 other state health leaders, patient and provider groups, and health care delivery systems in launchingNobody Quits Like Georgia.” The new campaign – which is centered around awareness events being held Nov. 16-20 across the state – is dedicated to connecting Georgians with the tools and resources they need to quit smoking.

While Georgia has made great strides to curb tobacco addiction, it is still well above the national average in our state, where nearly one in five adults is a smoker,” said District Health Director S. Elizabeth Ford, M.D., M.B.A.  “The reality is that most smokers want to quit. In fact, figures from the Georgia Department of Public Health indicate that more than 60 percent of current smokers have made a quit attempt in the past year alone, but without medicines and other support, the success rate is just 4-7 percent. It is my hope that this campaign will help to bridge the smoking disparities that exist in DeKalb County. ”

“Nobody Quits Like Georgia” campaign is dedicated to helping smokers by connecting them with the tools they need to quit successfully. Smokers are being empowered to talk to their doctors about quitting, helping doctors connect smokers with appropriate treatment, and supporting all Georgians with the message that there is help now for anyone who wants to quit.

Help is available through quit smoking options like the Georgia Quitline (1-877-270-STOP / 877-270-7867), local hospitals and online programs.
