Inspections
The Division of Environmental Health is responsible for regulating and inspecting nearly 100 tourist accommodation facilities, also classified as hotels, motels, and campgrounds. They are inspected for cleanliness and sanitary practices as set forth in the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Tourist Accommodation Rules and Regulations.
An inspection includes checking for the proper laundering of bed and bath linens, the proper washing of cups and glasses, the absence of rodents and insects, and the adequate maintenance of furnishings.
At least two regular inspections are conducted each year at each facility. More inspections may be performed in response to complaints.
Plan Reviews and permits
The division reviews new construction and renovation/remodeling plans and issues permits. In addition, we issue permits for new ownership of existing facilities.
