Opioid Response
The Opioid Response Program aims to reduce the number of drug addictions, overdoses and deaths. The focus is on opioids such as heroin, fentanyl, and prescription pain medicines like oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, and morphine.
The program:
- Distributes naloxone nasal spray, a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose.
- Offers monthly training sessions at DeKalb Public Health on using naloxone. Click here to register.
- Conducts outreach to and training for businesses where overdoses may occur, like gas stations, restaurants and extended stay hotels. We also give them “first aid kits” consisting of sterile gloves, a breathing barrier, and naloxone.
- Works with partner agencies to identify and respond to suspected and confirmed overdose clusters.
- Shares information on substance use treatment providers.
