Community Research

The center:

Also, DeKalb Public Health belongs to the Georgia Community Engagement Alliance Against COVID-19 Disparities. Its goals are to understand the factors that lead to the uneven burden of COVID-19 and to develop effective responses.
The alliance conducts research and outreach in underserved communities to:
- Combat misinformation
- Address vaccine hesitancy
- Build trust
- Increase vaccine uptake
Other alliance members include:
- Morehouse School of Medicine (lead agency)
- Emory University
- Southside Medical Center
- Community organizations
The alliance’s current focus is diabetes prevention in urban and rural communities in Bibb, DeKalb, Fulton and Houston Counties. Individuals with underlying medical conditions, like diabetes, appear to be at higher risk of developing severe COVID-19 illness than those without these conditions.
