Board of Health Partners with Local Agency for Free Virtual Diabetes Classes

DECATUR, Ga. – The DeKalb County Board of Health has partnered with the Diabetes Association of Atlanta to offer diabetes self-management classes to DeKalb County residents.

The classes, which will provide the knowledge and skills to successfully manage pre-diabetes and type 1, type 2, gestational diabetes and related health conditions, are free and are held virtually.

Registered participants can attend on either Tuesdays or Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The four-week schedule rotation begins on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Participants who complete all classes will receive a $50 grocery gift card.

Research shows that people who receive diabetes education are more likely to use primary care and preventive services, take medications as prescribed, control their glucose level and lower health care costs than those who do not receive it.
