It’s Simple – Healthy Habits for a Healthy Smile

“It’s simple,” says Dr. Dwayne Turner, as he teaches children easy ways to maintain a healthy smile.

Dr. Turner, the DeKalb County Board of Health’s Dental Health Services manager, recently reinforced this message to more than 30 Dresden Elementary School students.  The youngsters received education, dental screenings and over 100 free sealants at a Seal Georgia event.  More than half the patients received referrals for further care.

Assisting Dr. Turner were dental hygiene students from Georgia Perimeter College, which hosted the clinic.

The American Dental Hygiene Association celebrates National Dental Hygiene Month each year.  This year’s theme, “It’s simple. Healthy habits for a healthy smile,” stresses that one can include a basic oral health routine in a busy schedule.

Seal Georgia is part of the national fight against untreated oral disease among disadvantaged children.  It focuses on education and preventive care and provides dental sealants to low-income children.
